Do you remember road maps? If you went on a road trip in the 80’s and 90’s, chances are a road map was involved. If you were lost, you had to have a road map or stop at a gas station to ask for directions.
If we apply this analogy to reaching your fitness goals, you also need a road map on how to achieve them.
Here are 3 simple steps to follow to create your own road map toward reaching your fitness goals:
- Write down your goals- this forces you to clarify what you want and motivate you to take action. With so many distractions around you, this allows you to stay focused on your destination.
- Map out what you need to get you to your destination– depending on where you are going, you would pack accordingly. If it’s California: bathing suit and shorts. If it’s Alaska: a coat and some gloves. You also need to “pack accordingly” with your fitness goals. Do you have workout equipment/tools, a customized training program tailored to your needs and abilities, or a nutrition program that gets you results?
- Hire a coach– just like when you plan a trip, many people hire a travel agent to help customize their “road map” to have the best vacation possible. In the same way, a coach helps you to create your fitness road map. From helping you determine what your goals are, assessing your movement to determine the right-fit exercises for you, to providing consistent coaching throughout the process so you will have accountability, encouragement, and motivation to stick to your fitness road map and achieve your goals.
