The Other Half Of The Battle

When I was a kid if I wasn’t out on my bike or playing pick-up sports with my friends, I loved watching after school and Saturday morning cartoons!

Some of my favorites were Transformers and Duck Tails, and of course GI Joe…

At the end of every GI Joe episode there’d be a short public service announcement that taught kids important lessons.

https://youtu.be/dzyh_nEuh3M

They’d always ended with:

Child: “Now I know.”

One of the Joes:“And, knowing is half the battle.”

Another saying I’ve heard that goes great with that famous GI Joe message:

“When you know better it’s on you to do better.”

BUT, I’ve often found people have a really hard time with the DOING part…

This is especially true with exercise and nutrition.

Most people know that eating fast food isn’t going to support their health goals…

Most people know that working out just three times per week will dramatically improve their fitness and even longevity…

Then, why is it so hard to do those things…consistently?

Doing what needs to be done to achieve the goal is the other half of the battle, isn’t it?

It might shock you to know that the number one struggle a fitness business owner has is NOT getting new clients… It’s getting clients to show up!

Forget about the new Google or Facebook algorithms, local competition, or managing employees and operations.

Getting clients to attend their workouts regularly is actually the “big mystery.”

So, if you struggle being consistent with your workouts…

DON’T FEEL BAD AND DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP.

You’re normal.

Now, let’s not use that as an excuse though…

Because, it’s also normal in this country to be overweight and die of a totally preventable disease!:-0

Just understand that it’s OK to struggle with consistency.

What’s not OK (at least in my opinion) is totally give up on yourself!

Instead, look for ways to get a little bit better each day/week/month/year.

If you haven’t been getting to the gym it’s OK to start with one day per week.

Lock it in your schedule and make that the day you show up each week – kinda like date night.:-)

If you’ve been coming 2 times per week, but you really want to come 3…make it happen by planning your week ahead of time and making a commitment to yourself to SHOW UP.

If something that’s truly out of your control jacks up your schedule, don’t beat yourself up over it.

Just find a different day/time that you can make it work, and if all else fails…do a simple home workout.

Just do something!

Knowing is half the battle.

Doing is the other half.

Now you know…so just do it.;-)

I have been working with Marc for almost two years. He has been extremely effective in reducing neurogenic pain in my hips and knees. In addition, he has worked on my balance and overall strength which was in serious need of attention. Marc is very responsive to designing exercise strategies to meet **your** specific goals and needs. I highly recommend Marc if you are looking for an exercise physiologist or trainer.

After many tried and failed programs either online or in a public gym or CG, I finally have a program I have stuck w consistantly for over a year. At the year mark, I even decided that I loved going to UPT so much, I upped my sessions from 2x to 3x a week. Now, I am sad if I miss a session. My pain is gone. I was a chronic pain patient for over 10 years with various issues causing said pain. Marc's knowledge of how muscles work and how to guide them back to their proper place is pretty cool. When he asks how your body is feeling, he expects you to tell him if something is off so he can help and prevent further injury. Plus... he tells corny dad jokes.
