Recently, my son Stephon has taken a deep interest in sports.
He’s really started getting into playing basketball.
After work and on the weekends, we will shoot around and play on our hoop at home.
He recently asked me if I could help him be more consistent with his shooting. I told him I’d be happy too!
When he goes out to shoot, he always starts with shooting three pointers.
He wants to be like his favorite player Stephen Curry.
I told him that he can’t skip steps. You don’t go on the court and start shooting threes to become a better shooter.
You need to start shooting closer to the basket.
This will help improve his muscle memory, timing, footwork, balance, and strength.
As his accuracy improves, he can start moving farther away from the basket when he shoots.
Stephon, begrudgingly followed my advice and what do you know?
He started making shots left and right and his confidence was through the roof!
Instead of going inside when it’s hot, he now gets more water and keeps working on his game outside.
His attitude, confidence, and results changed due to him not skipping steps!
The same is true when we want to lose weight, get out of pain, have more energy etc.
-Having a consistent mobility/flexibility routine will help you with nagging aches and pains.
-Eating 80-90% of the time whole, unprocessed foods will help you keep the weight off for the long haul.
-Getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night will help with inflammation and curbing overeating.
-Looking for ways to serve others on a consistent basis will help you with situational depression and having a better mindset!
Whatever you want to improve at, don’t skip steps and focus on the habits that you will be consistent with to help you reach your goals!
What are you going to do today to make your life more healthy, enjoyable, and a blessing to others?
